Summary

The Chicago approach to the horrendous outcome of the recent SF Critical Mass Ride was to assume the prayer position of the Church of Urban Cycling.

Head Up Ass The 'Church of Urban Cycling Prayer Position'

The ‘Church of Urban Cycling Prayer Position’

And I keep asking myself why this is so offensive. After all the week that the SF Critical Mass went sideways forum owners here were trying to gather participants in the replication of the ‘stunt‘ carried out in the Wiggle District of the city. It seems that if something is negative the Urban Cycling Community is ‘all over it

This is borne out by the discrepancies in the memberships of groups like Chicago Slow  Roll and others designed to either bike drunk or ‘act out‘ in the name of cycling advocacy. Why should Chicago Slow Roll be a pimple on the butt of the Church of Urban Cycling (at least in terms of numbers).

The answer to that question is ‘values‘. We are weak on being positive and uplifting and bending over backwards to find ways to ‘piss off motorists‘. In fact the ‘moral weaklings‘ in the movement bury their heads (you know where) while mumbling that not everyone in Critical Mass Rides is a ‘thug‘.

My rejoinder to that is that not everyone who wears or displays a Confederate Battle Flag is necessarily a racist or worse. But no good Liberal Progressive in the Urban Cycling Community would consider it prudent to attend a Critical Mass Ride waving such a flag. Why is that?

The answer to that question is that Liberals and Progressives are weaklings when it comes to doing anything that requires self-sacrifice beyond perhaps a photo-op. They would never have (as a group) survived the Civil Right Movements tribulations in the Deep South. These are sunshine Liberals.

They will sell their birthright for a mess of pretty green paint and PVC bollards. But much beyond turning up naked once a year to ride their bikes or inflict pain on motorists is not in their wheelhouse. I would not for one minute hesitate to see these folks pull the same stunt that they did on a single female driver in SF if they thought her car was full of 6-foot tall Hells Angels wearing chains and just waiting to kick some punk-ass Urban Cycling Community butt!

Nope the Urban Cycling Community is relegated to geezer wimps who hide behind slogans designed to inoculate themselves against the sins of their younger ride mates. This is a movement which is a joke. It has been from the outset and only shows in glimpses that it can be uplifting. But for the most part it is where cowards of all ages hide and lurk waiting for a family with children whose bladders are full or single women trying to avoid confrontation.

By comparison GOP presidential candidates with lousy combovers are more straightforward and believable.
