TakeAways

There is a vast difference between the types of bicycle infrastructure we have been developing and the ‘real thing‘. But like a kid born in poverty who has never had much given to him by his parents, when they do offer him a ‘cheap knockoff‘ he is ecstatic.

Of course in a few months when his fake Air Jordans start disintegrating he is disappointed. And that is what it is like to try and live in a country where the folks who claim to be bicycle advocates allow cheap crap to be laid down just to keep the activists happy.

The stuff does not work well and often creates problems that were not there to begin with. But we are so very starved for anything that gives us hope that we too can have great infrastructure that ‘we settle‘. Shame on us.

More shame still on the folks who claim to be advocates for allowing this fakery to be purchased and installed.

Of course you could do what is being done in Paris. Give the cycling public crappy infrastructure and continue the nerve-wracking culture that permeates all aspects of the traffic experience, and make up for it all by allowing the cyclists to jump red lights!

Sweet!
