Learn Bike Safety at “Free” Class May 10

The Wheaton Bike Committee and the Wheaton Park District are teaming up to provide a free bike safety class to encourage biking for both transportation and fun. This one-day class will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Wheaton Park District Community Center, 1777 S. Blanchard Road.

This course is designed for people who wish to gain a full understanding of how to safely operate their bicycle in a variety of situations. Participants must be at least 12 years old.

Some of the things you will learn include:

  • How to properly fit your bicycle and helmet
  • How to perform a quick and easy bicycle safety check
  • How to fix a flat tire, and
  • How to perform minor mechanical adjustments.

The class will teach on-bike skills and practice, and it will include an interactive discussion of the online portion that you can complete prior to class. Participants will take a short neighborhood ride to practice group riding skills.

You will need to bring your own bicycle and helmet to the class and wear comfortable clothing that you can ride with.

While this class is free, registration is required by going to www.wheatonparkdistrict.com, and registering for class 215406
