ChainLinkers Get It Wrong, Again…

Background Reading

So it turns out that a ChainLinker wrote a question regarding charity donations:

Which charity? There are so many!

So, almost every year I host a ride to Wisconsin from Chicago…or somewhere which requires a lot of gear to get to. Last year we got together with Wounded Warrior Project and made $340 for them. But that amount is all we’ve raised to date.

I have a short list of potential candidates:

  • Wounded Warrior Project
  • Salvation Army
  • Malnutrition &office Nutrition Research

Ideas, anyone?

Well the Salvation Army hates the gays so you may want to take that into consideration.

The first response out of the gate was this one. No proof or citation of the facts of the accusation, just this comment.

Damn. I didn’t know that. Did you have any good ideas?

The problem is then compounded when the reply to this accusation goes unquestioned. Why?

During the recent debate over the value of helmets it was a continuous stream of requests for “facts” to back up the claims. But in this instance nothing of consequence is required of the person leveling the accusation.

You can read what snipes had to say on this bit of blather:

In essence this group like many businesses and churches and other organizations relies upon Scriptural references from both the Old and New Testaments of the document we call the Bible. Most of the sodomy laws in this country and others are based upon literal interpretations of these texts. Both Judaism and Christianity rely on these texts as the basis for their moral codes. I suppose if citing the letter to the Romans (or passages in the Old Testament with the same emphasis on sodomy) is the basis for the condemnation of the Salvation Army, then anyone claiming to be either a Jew or a Christian is by extension a hater of gays.

This of course means that strict Jewish Law observance would condemn the consuming of pork and certain shell fish.

It should also be pointed out that Islamic Law forbids sodomy as well. So would could probably make a blanket statement that any charity affiliated with any of the three major religions should be shunned, right?
