Cyclists Should Be Wary of ‘Pointing The Finger’ At Motorists

Summary

Quite frequently on the ChainLink Forum an Urban Cyclist is found venting about this or that behavior of a cyclist that enrages them due to the fact that their bike lane has been ‘violated‘. Some of this outrage is improperly founded since cabs are among those vehicles which can only discharge passengers near the curb and depending on the bike lane configuration that means cyclists have to wait and in fact yield to the pedestrians (formerly passengers) getting out of said cab.

But in many instances trucks restocking businesses or private citizens are parking in the bike lane and that too enrages our cyclists. But we should be careful of requesting that motorists be taught a lesson by being fined and ticketed. If the cops were to being doing the same for cyclists who blow through stop signs (not to mention running red lights) the numbers would be staggering.
