Brompton is today pleased to reveal details of a brand new non-competitive event for London, the Brompton Urban Challenge, to be held on May 19th.
The format will offer participants something a little different to a traditional cycling event as orienteering skill and ingenuity will define the winning teams, rather than speed. In the urban jungle of the UK capital, teams of Brompton owners will ride around the city completing some Brompton-based challenges (Brompton track stand anyone?) and picking up points along the way by photographing the bikes in different places and scenarios. Those not taking part will be able to watch it all unfold and keep up to date through Brompton’s social media channels as participants’ photos are uploaded in real-time and grouped using the recently introduced hashtag, #BUCLDN.
Setting out from our HQ at Look Mum No Hands in Old Street, teams will navigate between set checkpoints to be announced on the day; members of the Brompton team will be present at each checkpoint to assign teams new challenges, help to send photos back to HQ and even offer a few clues and route tips. Then once the challenges are completed, Bromptoneers will be welcomed back to Look Mum No Hands for a post-event reception and some top refreshments. The cafe will be turned into a gallery, showing off the best of the photos taken during the day and we’ll be raffling off our favourite framed photographs to raise money for the Brompton charity of choice, Re-Cycle.
For those of you who follow us through social media, we hope you’ve enjoyed the sneak peak at the challenges you’ve had recently. We’ll be keeping quiet about the rest until the day of the event but you can expect to see a side of London beyond the daily commute, visiting iconic landmarks as well as some hidden gems. For clues and an insight into the day’s format, have a look at this video from the Brompton Urban Challenge in Milan last year.
There are 125 places available and, because entry is open to both individuals and teams, the day will be a great opportunity to meet some fellow Brompton riders. Further details about the event are available on our website and for any further questions, please contact the firstname.lastname@example.org.
Registration, priced at £10 per entrant, opens on Wednesday April 23rd at midday.
