How does it work?
To hire a bike you first need to become a member by registering with Brompton Dock. You register your name, mobile phone number and email address before receiving a unique PIN. As part of this process you will select which tariff you wish to use and pay your annual membership fee via your debit or credit card.
Once you have registered with Brompton Dock you can take out or return a bike by texting the dock with just a few pieces of information (usually the number of the dock you wish to use, when you want to use it and your PIN, e.g. 1234 NOW 5678). See here for the details. The system matches the mobile phone number and PIN to validate the membership and then sends you a text containing an access code and the bay number that you have been allocated. You punch this code into the dock, press ‘enter’ and the bay will be unlocked.
When you take a bike out you are given 15 minutes to check it over and make sure it is not faulty. If you should find something wrong it is simple to report the faulty bike, return it and take out another one. Details of how to do this can be found here.
Once you have checked your bike, away you go and your hiring period begins.
Your hire charges will be deducted automatically from the card you used to register and pay you annual membership fee with.
