Say Hello to Bike Tracks!

Move over bike lanes, bike tracks are gearing up in Seattle.

Seattle has spent $35 million over the past five years on bicycle lanes, but now the city is changing direction.

Bike tracks will be installed along Broadway, around Westlake, in South Lake Union and the city will study a bike track running through downtown.

“Cities from New York to Chicago to Portland have been building cycling tracks that physically protect people from traffic,” said Craig Benjamin of the Cascade Bicycle Club.

Cycling advocates say tracks are the future. A bike track in North Seattle is nearly completed on Linden Avenue.

It was a four lane road which now has sidewalks and sports a ten-foot wide bike track.
A slab of concrete separates bikes from car traffic.

Within the next two years, $5 million will be spent on the separate lanes for bikes in Seattle.

Amazon is investing in a two block long track for its employees.
