Old Plank Road Trail – Blue Grass Weekend Ride

Summary

Bobby Mitchell and his grandson

Before leaving Wheaton we made our way over to the GITy Up launch area where more than a few dozen riders were gathering for a 24 hour campout and ride along the Illinois Prairie Path.

Bobby Mitchell and his grandson were among those representing for the recumbent world on this ride. Another fellow was there on his Sat’R Day SWB recumbent. The schedule called for them to ride the IPP west to the Fox River Trail and then head north to camp out overnight. They would all be riding back to Wheaton by 12 Noon on Sunday. Short but sweet!

When we reached the Old Plank Road Trail in Frankfort, IL there was a Blue Grass Festival in full swing. Great music and lots of people sitting in Breidert Green Park listening intently.

Our route took us to the western end of the trail and back. It was a hot day with a few thunderstorms off in the distance. But we managed to stay relatively dry. By the time we returned we were more than ready for a very late luncheon at Chipotle.
