A Note About RAW Data

As with so many things in life having access to the RAW data that comes out of your camera’s sensor would probably be of little value. Why? Because it would lack “context”. That is what makes ADJUSTMENTS so very essential in Aperture.

Without knowing how changing a particular variable will effect your image you are “flying blind”. Most of the descriptions and tags for the data in the RAW file are no doubt meaningful to a highly skilled technician.

But seldom would such information stimulate the understanding of a photographer. So ADJUSTMENTS are how we put all this data into context.

Adjustments are grouped by their functionality and the data they alter is left hidden. What Aperture does is offer visual feedback as to how the amounts of change are going to effect the image in a visual fashion. This allows you to add or deduct your estimations of the input needed.

It all results in a finished product that you can be proud of. And if you find yourself performing the same basic set of adjustments to virtually every image that emerged from your camera you can save them as a PRESET. That save you time and energy when processing dozens of images on a regular basis.
